You’ve come to the end of another long day and it’s just about that time to lay your head on your soft comfy bed and snooze away into dreamland. But before that, it’s time to start taking that makeup off! And yes, you better! Don’t EVER sleep with your makeup on – just don’t! It’s just bad news for your skin. You want to treat your skin with love right? Then, at the end of the day, give it the love that it deserves! Kiss your face goodnight with my go-to nighttime skin care routine below!
My Nighttime Skin Care Routine
Step 1:
Take makeup off. I start with my eye makeup and use good ‘ol Micellar water like I talked about here. This works SO well as a universal makeup remover! I start by dampening a cotton pad with the product, gently place over my eye, and hold for a few seconds. This will allow my eye makeup (especially mascara which is the WORST to remove am I right?) to loosen up, making it easier to wipe away. Using gentle back and forth motions (no forceful rubbing – this is no bueno for the sensitive skin around our eyes!) I remove any eyeshadow, mascara, and brow pencil.
Step 2:
Face be gone! Using a pre-cleansed makeup wipe like Neutrogena’s Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes (how awesome and versatile are these by the way?!), I wipe all of my base off (i.e. Foundation, Concealer). Be sure to use both sides of the towelette!
Step 3:
Face really be gone! Now, you may think that using the makeup removing towelette is sufficient but, nuh uh! There will definitely be some residue left behind from your foundation or concealer. At this point, I like to hop in the shower and, while lathering up, I use a gentle scrub (check out which scrub is my fav here) to exfoliate my face and ensure ALL makeup is off!
Step 4:
Tone and Treat! Just to be sure we’ve taken ALL that makeup off (sometimes there’s just a lot you know?), I take one swipe all over my face with a cotton pad dampened with my fav toner by Clarins (of course!). I love their Toning Lotion with Iris – it has a gorgeous smell and is gentle on my skin. I allow this to dry and immediate apply my fav serum that I talked about here. If it’s an ‘acne treatment’ kind of day, I’ll omit the serum and, instead, apply a thin layer of Retin-A gel all over my face (concentrating on my chin and jawline area) to treat my acne-prone skin. I do this about 3 times a week.
Step 5:
Moisturize! Time to finish up the night with my fav moisturizer. I use Clarin’s Multi-Active Night Cream (for normal to combination skin) and dot all over and gently smooth over my face. This is a thicker formula than my day cream gel which I quite like because I feel like my skin is getting the moisture it needs. Like my morning skin care routine I talked about here, I can’t say no to my eye cream! I lightly apply this by tapping onto the eye contour area. Remember, we want to treat the skin around our eyes with love and care! Now, if I have any John, Jacob, or Henry’s that have made an appearance on my face, I treat them with a blemish control stick like the one I mentioned here! Time for bed!
