Remember those memes from back in the day with the really fit dudes that have insane upper bodies but little chicken legs? Well, we’re trying to avoid that here! Call me crazy but, I honestly love leg day. Like, seriously. Despite the soreness I feel afterwards and the doubt of why I would ever put my legs in such agony, the benefits are the best! Like so many other work outs I’ve outlined here, you’re targeting more than just your legs with this kind of workout. Abs, Glutes, on top of your gams, are being worked on. How awesome!
Here is a list of my fav leg workouts to take your legs from itty bitty chicken committee to hello, Victoria Secret model! Do this on its own or together with my other work out regimes! (check out my How to Gain 10-pounds of Muscle post here). You’ll be strutting those sexy legs down that gym runway in no time!
1. Dead Lift
Tips/Benefits: Keep your back flat when bending over and engage your glutes as you come back up.
2. Barbell Low Squat
Tips/Benefits: Keep your chest up and engage glutes as you come back up. Do NOT overdo it with the weight – set a weight that is most comfortable to you.
3. Lunges
Tips/Benefits: Best to add weights with this one to get the full benefit but omit weights if you must.
4. Leg Press
Tips/Benefits: Again, set weight to what is best for you! Do NOT over extend your legs. This can be very damaging for your knees.
5. Machine Leg Extensions
Tips/Benefits: Slow and controlled movements wins the race.
6. Seated Hamstring Curl
Tips/Benefits: Slow and controlled movements STILL wins the race.
7. Lying Hip Thrusts
Tips/Benefits: Engage glutes as you raise your hips.
