Whether you’re meeting your new potential love interest for the very first time or heading out to your weekly date night with your boo, your makeup routine could speak volumes. You want to look fresh and natural as possible while, of course, coming off as effortlessly glamorous! You’ve planned your outfit out down to the accessories, hair is did, now it’s time to move on to that pretty little face of yours.
Investing in some good quality products to last throughout your date is always the way to go – and you don’t have to break the bank! Also, consider the fact that you can easily transition your day look to night. Ensuring you’ve applied a long lasting solution can make this step SO simple and quick for you, leaving you more time to meditate before your big date or take a quick breather before a night out in the town. For some useful tips on how to make the most of your date night makeup, read on for some inspiration! Remember, if he doesn’t call you back, at least you know it’s not because of your makeup!
1. Make the base last
This step is super important especially if you’re taking your day look to night. If your base could last you throughout the day how amazing would that be! No touch ups, no fuss, no time-consuming fixer uppers. If you’ve read my post on How to Make your Foundation Last you know there are a few key products to achieve this long-lasting effect. First off, make primer your best friend. This will allow a protective barrier between your skin and foundation while at the same time provide a better hold onto the foundation you’ve applied. Next, setting powder. Any creamy products applied to the face should always be set with a translucent setting powder to ensure that guy will last! Lastly, complete your look with a quick spritz of setting spray to solidify everything in place. This trifecta will have your base looking amazing right into the night!
2. Quick Contour
We’re not looking to go crazy with the contour here, just a subtle enhancement here and there never hurt anyone right? I’m a big fan of contour around the cheek bone area while keeping it as natural as possible. Lightly tapping the product into the skin will best help to achieve a natural look. Feel free to also do a light contouring around the forehead area, jawline, or nose. I like using a matte bronzing powder for this step.
3. Pretty Eyes
My favorite thing to do for my eye look is taking the same matte bronzing powder I used in step 2, a swiping a small amount on my eye lids. It makes for a quick, easy, and natural eye look. But if you want to amp it up a bit (I mean it’s date night after all!) intensify this look by darkening up your crease area with a deeper neutral toned eyeshadow or smoke out your upper lash line with a brown liner or eyeshadow. I like brown for a natural look. Lastly, add a touch of highlighter to your tear ducts or brow bone and LOTS of mascara (I mean, you can never have too much mascara) to really make those peepers pop!
4. Playful Lips
Whether it’s date night or your first date with that someone special, your lip color could play a big role here. I mean, you never know how much smooching could go on after the date am I right? I like adding a pop of color to my lip look, especially if I’ve used neutral tones throughout the rest of my face. Pinks, reds, peaches, all are good in my books! But if you want your lipstick to last past the first course, ensure you’re using a lip liner throughout your lips (the waxy content in the liner helps to grab on to your lips and other lips products you add on top). I also like adding a lighter lip color to the center of my bottom lip to accentuate my pout. Happy smooching!
