It’s the time of year you’ve been waiting for! Sun is out, the weather is finally warming up, and you’re ready to hit the pool with your besties. You’re busting out your favorite outfits and accessories that have been locked up in the back of your closet all year. What a fun time to experiment with your makeup look! Whether you like to keep things neutral or go full on glamazon queen, experimenting with some summertime looks can be a lot of fun. Playing with some more color, adding a touch more bronzer for that sun-kissed look, or amping up the highlighter for that summer glow, there are so many ways to achieve a summertime look! Read on for my tips to make your face summer lovin’ in the sun.
Because I’m all about that base…
If I’ve said this once, I’ve probably already said this too many times, base is EVERYTHING. Especially in the hot summer sun, we don’t want a melting face situation (how tragic!). If you’ve read my post on How to make your foundation last you know there are a few key products to avoid a dripping mess of a face. First off, make primer your best friend! This will allow a protective barrier between your skin and foundation while at the same time provide a better hold onto the foundation you’ve applied. Feel free to add a couple of layers of foundation here if you’re really concerned with that summer time heat. And, since it’s summer after-all, don’t skimp out on the SPF! If you can rock a foundation with SPF in it, even better. Next, setting powder. Any creamy products applied to the face should always be set with a translucent setting powder to ensure that guy will last! Lastly, complete your look with a quick spritz of setting spray to solidify everything in place. This trifecta will have your base looking amazing throughout your next beach day or pool party.
Bronzy Glow
I’m all about a good bronzer all year round but, since we’re talking summertime here, why not try one with a bit of a shimmer to really make your contour pop. If you’re choosing to use highlighter, I would probably opt for a subtle shimmer to the bronzer or else you’ll be a little too shimmery all over! We’re going for that sun-kissed glow here. Finish your base with a highlighter – I like a loose powder highlighter that I apply with a fan brush. Swipe some on the tops of your cheekbones, your cupids bow, top of your nose, and the sides of the forehead – wherever the sun would naturally hit your face. Hello glow!
Sexy Eyes
It’s summer, so why not have some fun with a bit of color here! Try some orange or red eyeshadow shades on your peepers – so summertime! That may sound intense (especially red!) but it’s all about how and where you’re applying it. Add a pop of bright orange shadow around your crease area to really amplify this look and a more subtle/neutral orange shade to the lids. When it comes to red, try it out in the crease and outer eye area to intensify the look. A shimmery, golden eye shadow would be so perfect on the center of the lid here! Imagine looking down and flashing your friends with that pop of shimmer on the lids – so pretty! Keep up the glow with a light golden shadow on the tear ducts and brow bone. Lastly, a good winged liner (I love using a black liquid liner for this step) and at least 2 coats of mascara and your eyes are summertime ready!
Kissable lips
We’re almost done but first, lets set those lips on fire! Pair your summertime eye look with a fiery lip! Now you can’t get more summertime than that. Prep your lips with a thin coat of lip balm, allow that to set in, then line your lips (and fill them in!) with a bright orange lip pencil. Swipe a bright orange lipstick on top, something with a nice lustre to it, and finish with shimmery gloss. Bring on the heat!
